Taxis Taxis can be hailed in the road, provided the green light on top of the vehicle is illuminated, or picked up in the Taxi Ranks which are dotted around the town. The cabs are only allowed to take a maximum of four passengers. They can also be ordered by phoning 971 54 98 70. Most of the taxi drivers speak English and it is advisable to ask the approximate fare before setting off. As the cabs run on meters, as in the UK and Ireland, the fares quoted by them, and in the list below, are approximate guides only. Remember, the cost increases after 9 pm, and on Sundays and Fiesta days. If you call a taxi by phone, you also have to pay a supplement. Also, if you have an excessive amount of suitcases, you pay a supplement per case. HOWEVER, IF YOU GET IN THE CAB AND THE DRIVER ADDS A "SUPLEMENTOS" TO THE METER, ASK HIM WHAT IT WAS FOR. WE WERE CHARGED 75 CENTIMOS JUST BECAUSE 'WE FLAGGED THE CAB DOWN ON THE ROAD'. THIS IS TOTALLY ILLEGAL AND IF HE REFUSES TO WITHDRAW THIS SUPPLEMENT THEN MAKE A NOTE OF HIS CAB NUMBER (ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOOR) AND TELEPHONE THE CAB COMPANY AS ABOVE - THEY WILL BE SYMPATHETIC.
