Postage to the United Kingdom or Ireland is 60 centimos for a standard letter or postcard. Stamps are on sale at Tobacconists and the Post Office. You may also be able to buy stamps at the shop where you buy your cards. Some outlets are offering a privatised postal service (eg TNT). Stamps bought at these outlets cannot be used to post letters or cards in an official Post Office box, they must only be deposited in the box at the shop where they were bought. Stamps for the official national postal service carry the words "Correos Espana" and, unless your stamps have these words on them they cannot be posted in the post boxes on the roadside or at the Post Office. You can't miss the official post boxes ... they are bright yellow. There are two slots into which you can post letters and cards, one is for internal mail and the other is for overseas post. The one marked Extranjero is the one you want. But, on saying that, we once saw a postal worker emptying the pillar box one day (a rare sight in itself!) and she emptied the sack containing local mail into another sack in her van and then emptied the sack containing 'Extranjero' letters into ... yes, the same sack! There isn't a permanent Post Office in Puerto Alcudia but in the summer months a mobile one is parked up in the Port area. Check it for opening times - they will probably vary! |
